Beloved Honcho A Go-Go Comes to Independence Market

Good news for those who love the Union Joints restaurant Honcho A Go-Go: it's bringing its hand-crafted and creative offerings to the new Meijer Independence Market.

Union Joints is the parent company of eleven area restaurants, AKA Joints, which include the Union Woodshop, the Clarkston Union, Vinsetta Garage on Woodward, Mom's Spaghetti, and Union Assembly in Detroit. Three Joints include coffee shops, and then there's Clarkston's high-traffic Honcho Latin Street Food & Coffee and two of its freestanding outposts: Honcho A Go-Go.

Union Joints Marketing Director, Alexandra McKendrick, is enthusiastic about the coming café. "Everything we offer will be available to dine in or as 'grab-and-go.' In the morning, patrons can enjoy everything from the early morning coffee bar complete with delicious baked goods from the Union Joints pastry team."

Honcho freshly hand-roasts their beans, which are carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. "We call them our Honcho Beans and are committed to creating a great cup of coffee. Our beans are available for purchase, making it possible to brew a great cup of coffee at home, too."

But the coffee love doesn't stop there. "We'll offer drip coffees, cappuccinos, espressos, and lattes—but with a twist. We don't use pre-bottled syrups that are full of additives. Our baristas create unique syrup combinations from scratch. Recently, we crafted a bourbon vanilla latte infused with real bourbon and vanilla. We’ve made mocha honey and salted caramel syrups, too. We want to offer coffees you can't get anywhere else."

And what goes best with Honcho coffee? Their fantastic baked goods and pastries. "We have an incredible pastry team that creates all our baked goods and pastries fresh from scratch daily. Our pastry chef Jen and her team are head and shoulders above the rest—whether they're making bundt cake you can get for dessert in one of our restaurants, her one-of-a-kind take on the classic Pop Tart sold in our café, fresh-made bagels, or the always popular sea salt/chocolate chip cookie, which is just divine. Our pastries will rotate monthly, and we will always have available items that are allergy-specific or gluten-free, yet moist and crumbly."

What’s easier and better than grabbing a taco before you go shopping, or meeting a friend for a coffee indoors or on the patio near the mural, snagging a rice bowl for dinner, and then being able to do your grocery shopping with a coffee and pastry? It’s just all conveniently right there.”

But if you're not the breakfast type, Honcho A Go-Go has you covered, too. "The café will offer a menu built around the favorites that have set Honcho apart for the past eight years: incredible proteins that anchor tacos, burritos, and their beloved rice bowls."

Union Joints restaurants are known for their meats, and Honcho A Go-Go is no exception. "Honcho rice bowls are available in your choice of topper:  pollo asado, poblano sweet potato, taco night beef, or Korean BBQ pork. Bowls come with some pickled veggies, cilantro jasmine rice, nori, cilantro, peruvian chili sauce, and kimchi. You could say our bowls are a fusion of Latin street food with an Asian twist—for example, our Korean BBQ pork rice bowl."

Honcho A Go-Go will serve the popular Honcho Burrito—a classic burrito with your choice of protein, shredded iceberg, tomato, shredded cheddar, and black beans, and rice.

Honcho A Go-Go will also feature its Walking Taco—a bag of Fritos corn chips loaded with your choice of chicken/beef/pork, shredded cheddar, shredded lettuce, tomato, salsa verde, and sour cream—a fan favorite at Union Joints' Pine Knob and Ford Field satellite locations. "I think the Walking Taco is the perfect snack or meal to eat while grocery shopping. It's convenient and quick, and you can also share a bite with your kiddos."

"What's easier and better than grabbing a taco before you go shopping, or meeting a friend for a coffee indoors or on the patio near the mural, snagging a rice bowl for dinner, and then being able to do your grocery shopping with a coffee and pastry? It's just all conveniently right there."

Whether you're dining in the Market's seating area, relaxing on the adjacent elevated patio, grabbing takeout, or getting it delivered to your door, this latest extension of Honcho gives the Clarkston community another way to enjoy a menu born and beloved on Main Street.
